The Communications Network for Catholic Sisters (CNCS Kenya) recently conducted a digital communications training for the Sisters of Mary Immaculate of Nyeri (SMI), equipping participants with practical skills in photography, videography, livestreaming and video editing.

The training, conducted in collaboration with the congregation, also covered digital communication, with a focus on strengthening the Sisters’ ability to document their activities and communicate their mission through digital platforms.

Through practical sessions, participants were introduced to techniques for capturing quality photographs, recording video content, livestreaming events and editing videos for publication. The training aimed to strengthen their capacity to independently produce and share content showcasing the congregation’s ministries and engagements.

The initiative comes as CNCS Kenya intensifies efforts to strengthen communication capacity among Catholic Sisters’ congregations, particularly through the establishment and development of communication desks.

For many congregations, communication remains an area with considerable potential for growth. While Sisters are actively involved in education, healthcare, pastoral work and social transformation, documenting and communicating these engagements requires dedicated personnel, practical media skills and organised communication structures.

CNCS’s approach is therefore centred not only on training individual Sisters in media production, but also on encouraging congregations to integrate communication into their institutional structures. Through communication desks, congregations can coordinate media activities, document their ministries, manage digital platforms and ensure that information about their work reaches wider audiences.

The engagement with SMI reflects this broader objective. By equipping Sisters with practical production skills, CNCS is contributing to the development of the human capacity needed to support communication work within congregations.

The initiative builds on CNCS’s previous engagements with congregations, including the Sisters of Emmanuel, where communication capacity, storytelling and digital evangelization have featured in efforts to strengthen the visibility of religious congregations and their ministries.

As digital platforms continue to shape how institutions engage with the public, the ability of Catholic Sisters to communicate their work effectively is becoming increasingly important. Beyond documenting events, effective communication enables congregations to share their experiences, highlight their contribution to society and engage audiences in the mission of the Church.

CNCS Kenya, pledges to continue supporting Catholic Sisters in developing communication skills and structures that enable them to tell their stories and make their contribution to society more visible.

The training with SMI is part of these ongoing efforts to strengthen communication as an essential component of the mission and institutional life of Catholic Sisters.
