“I am very grateful to the Association of Sisterhoods in Kenya (AOSK) and Marengoni
Community College for believing in me and allowing me to move closer to my dream,” says
Mike Henry, a Diploma in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) student at
Marengoni Community College who is preparing to establish his own cyber business with
support from the Association of Sisterhoods in Kenya (AOSK), in collaboration with the college.
The equipment and materials he received are helping him prepare to put his ICT skills into
practice, become self-reliant, and support his family.
Mike comes from a humble family background. His mother is a housewife, while his father
works in manual labour to provide for the family. Growing up with limited financial resources
has taught him the value of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of opportunities to
improve his circumstances.
For Mike, education is not simply about attending classes and earning a qualification. He
believes that the knowledge and practical skills he is acquiring through his ICT diploma can
open opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship. With the support he has received, he is
now preparing to open his own cyber office while continuing his studies.
Reflecting on the opportunity, Mike said, “The support I have received has encouraged me to put
the skills I am learning in ICT into practice. I hope that, through my cyber business, I will
become self-reliant and be able to support my family. This opportunity has given me hope and
motivation to work hard for a better future.”
The support from AOSK and Marengoni Community College has brought Mike closer to his
goal of connecting classroom learning with practical experience. As he prepares to establish his
business while pursuing his diploma, he recognises the need for discipline, patience, careful
planning and perseverance.
“Coming from a humble family, I understand how important education and opportunities are in
changing a person’s life. My dream is not only to complete my ICT studies but also to establish a
successful business that will help me support my parents and improve our family’s living
conditions. I am determined to work hard, remain focused on my studies, and make good use of
the support I have received,” he said.
For Mike, success means more than personal achievement. He hopes to become financially
independent, support his parents and use the knowledge he is acquiring to build a better future
for himself and his family. He also sees the cyber business as an opportunity to apply his ICT
knowledge beyond the classroom while gaining practical experience.
“This support has brought me one step closer to my dream. I am still pursuing my ICT diploma,
but now I also have an opportunity to apply my knowledge and build a business of my own. I
believe that with hard work, determination, and the support I have received, I can create a better
future for myself and my family,” he said.
